I try the commond: geth removedb nohup. That will hopefully land in Geth 1. Geth also supports "fast syncing" with itself, which you can use to synchronize an existing chain into a fresh data directory and then swap out the old one with the fresh one:. Please do the above manually, I just wrote up the rm and mv commands there to make it clearer what I mean.
After it's initial sync, Geth switches to "full sync" where all historical state form that point onward is retained. If you resync, then only the latest state is downloaded. The latest state with the blockchain data is worth about 50GB, but since we don't have state pruning yet, after a sync the data just keeps accumulating. The chain still grows, but at a much much slower rate than before. Doing a full sync on mainnet i. We're still working on getting final pruning implemented to keep it even slower.
Hi, why can't we just split the data directory like in Bitcoin? And Parity already has "auto" pruning implemented in it's warp mode. Solved go ethereum why my chaindata size up to GB? Connect and share knowledge within a single location that is structured and easy to search. I did the blockchain sync from scratch via geth in command line. The current size of the chaindata folder is 68 GB.
Is this normal or am I missing something. Also there is a. I will soon run out of space if this continues. Any suggestions? I believe that Geth is planning to have a pruning function eventually, but it isn't available yet. If you resync from scratch using --fast it should reduce the size to around 11GiB. It will be recreated if it is ever needed. See also How to reduce chaindata database size? Update: Geth v1. This will take your chain data down to under MB.
Just start geth with the --light option. You can then optionally delete the main chain data. Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top. Stack Overflow for Teams — Start collaborating and sharing organizational knowledge.

Thank you for your answer. AFAIK, technically both fast and full will download same size of blocks. So in this case the question is: will it require extra space when all blocks are downloaded or not? I know that while fast syncing it also require some time and disk space to perform a state tries download. Will it be a case for "full" sync and how much of disk space it will require?
